Since arriving here in the UK, I’ve noticed that I use three words over & over again to describe my experience: humbled, grateful, and amazed. Almost daily I experience something that reminds me that God has His hand on my life and on this place, & that East London is exactly where I’m supposed to be.
In the grand scheme of things, I do very small things here. I serve people tea, coffee & cake, write articles, laminate teaching aids, lead worship every once in a while, & yet my days are filled with joy. Through these small things, God is using me in ways that surprise me, to touch people’s lives, to break down walls of loneliness, & to bring healing and light in the darkness.
What is so humbling though, is that this good I am bringing into these people’s lives is all God’s grace in my life: He gave me my past, my gifts & talents, my dreams & desires. I recognize I am on a journey, & I still have much to learn about using His gifts well & living fully as the person God created me to be. Even so, I can say to God with full conviction, “Thank you, for all that has been, and for all that is, and for all that is to come.”

I read a article recently What Is the Capital of the World? www.moreintelligentlife.com. In the past places like Rome and Constantinople have had the spotlight. In 2011, when considering 'power and influence', 'income and wealth', 'education', 'global connections' and 'culture' the writer's research suggests London has just jumped ahead of New York. (It didn't metion if our reputation for food is improving.) Are we using that influence for good?
